instant Love: Hamster's Christmas goes beyond a simple love story to metaphorically explore the complex emotions faced by a woman in her late twenties at a turning point in her life. At the heart of this work lies the emotional amplitude—ranging from anxiety and anticipation to isolation and desire—encountered amid intertwined social, environmental, and personal changes. Drawing on a form of magical imagination, it engages in subtle communication with the unseen world, capturing emotional traces, signs, foresight, and the yearning to alter one’s destiny. The result is a narrative that gently traverses the boundary between reality and imagination.

The images in instant Love: Hamster's Christmas function like folding screens or talismans. Traditionally, folding screens have served as symbolic devices in rituals—dividing the secular from the sacred and acting as a gateway to invisible realms. Beyond them, the presence of transcendent beings is often implied. This work inherits such meaning by forming a dual structure: a front side depicting reality and daily life, and a reverse side containing wishes and invocations.

Elements such as saju (Korean Four Pillars of Destiny), zodiac signs, and love compatibility readings are often dismissed as unscientific, but in fact, they are built upon a long history of accumulated experience and case-based interpretation—a kind of statistical system. These systems classify types and interpret tendencies or destinies based on birth date and time, echoing data-driven thinking. Similarly, generative image tools learn from data to produce new visual outcomes. This project seeks to intentionally connect the underlying structures shared by these two systems.

The artist’s saju reveals a dominance of water energy. To balance this, the images were composed with the complementary elements of fire, wood, earth, and metal. Alongside saju, the work also incorporates elements such as Western astrology, the twelve zodiac animals, body constitution types, and imagined love stories to create an image of “optimal compatibility”—one that would generate the most favorable energy for the artist. These images were produced using a combination of self-taken photographs and Adobe’s generative image tools, drawing on vast datasets to forge a new visual language. Hundreds of layers were stacked, drawn over, and reassembled with photos to gradually construct each image as a deeply personal symbol.

This work is both a talisman wishing for auspicious events and a visual experiment in formal beauty. It holds within it a sincere desire to block toxic relationships and reshape one's fate—yet it also carries a self-mocking gaze at the naive and shallow belief that a single talisman might change a life. Rather than passively accepting one’s fate, this work is an attempt to recompose it in a personal way.

instant Love: 햄스터의 크리스마스는 단순한 사랑 이야기를 넘어, 20대 후반 여성이 삶의 전환기에서 마주하는 복합적인 감정을 은유적으로 풀어낸다. 사회적·환경적·개인적 변화가 뒤섞인 전환점에서 느끼는 불안과 기대, 고립과 욕망의 감정 진폭이 이 작업의 중심에 있다. 주술적 상상력을 바탕으로 보이지 않는 세계와 은밀히 소통하며, 감정의 잔상과 예견, 선견지명, 그리고 운명을 바꾸고자 하는 마음들이 이미지로 표현된다. 이는 현실과 상상의 경계를 부드럽게 넘나드는 이야기로 이어진다.

instant Love: 햄스터의 크리스마스의 이미지는 병풍이나 부적처럼 작동한다. 병풍은 전통적으로 관혼상제와 같은 의례에서 세속과 성스러운 공간을 나누고, 보이지 않는 세계와의 통로로 기능해왔다. 그 너머에는 초월적 존재의 현존이 상정되며, 단순한 장식을 넘어 상징적 장치로 작용해왔다. 이러한 의미를 이어받아, 이번 작업 역시 현실과 일상을 담은 앞면과 믿음과 기원이 담긴 이면으로 구성된 이중 구조를 형성하고자 했다. 또한 사주, 별자리, 궁합 등은 흔히 비과학적으로 여겨지지만, 사실은 오랜 시간 축적된 경험과 사례를 기반으로 한 일종의 통계 시스템이다. 생년월일과 시간을 통해 유형을 분류하고 성향이나 운명을 해석하는 방식은 데이터 기반 사고와 유사하며, 생성형 이미지 역시 데이터를 학습해 결과물을 만들어낸다는 점에서 구조적으로 닮아 있다. 이 작업은 두 시스템이 공유하는 구조를 의도적으로 연결해보고자 했다.

작업자의 사주는 물의 기운이 강한 편으로, 이를 보완하기 위해 오행 중 화(火), 목(木), 토(土), 금(金)의 기운을 활용해 이미지를 구성했다. 여기에 사주뿐 아니라 서양 점성술의 별자리, 12간지, 체질, 사랑 이야기와 관련된 상상 등을 조합해, 스스로에게 가장 좋은 기운이 흐를 수 있는 ‘최상의 궁합’ 이미지를 만들고자 했다. 이러한 이미지는 직접 촬영한 사진과 Adobe의 생성형 이미지 도구를 활용해 제작되었으며, 방대한 데이터를 바탕으로 새로운 시각 언어를 만들어낸다. 수백 개의 레이어를 겹쳐 올리고, 그 위에 그림을 그리거나 사진을 덧붙이며, 하나의 이미지를 ‘나만의 상’으로 새롭게 조합해갔다.

이 작업은 좋은 일이 유입되기를 바라는 하나의 부적이자, 조형적 아름다움을 탐색하는 시각적 실험이다. 불순한 관계를 차단하고 스스로의 운을 바꾸고자 했던 진심 어린 바람이 이미지에 담겨 있지만, 동시에 단 하나의 부적으로 인생을 바꿔보겠다는 순진하고도 얄팍한 믿음에 대한 자조적 시선 또한 포함되어 있다. 주어진 운명을 수동적으로 받아들이기보다는 나만의 방식으로 재구성하고자 한 시도다.
